Transforming Lives for Good

Early Intervention
The Community Church like to bless and serve people in our local area, enabling them to experience everyday care, community and kindness. One of the ways it does this is to link with the charity TLG, to provide ‘Early Intervention’ support for children at local schools. Several members of our church have trained as coaches and meet weekly with their ‘coach child’ (someone the school might be worried about, who may be struggling with their emotional well-being). The coaches utilise a range of resources from the charity which support children to develop self-esteem, confidence with their friendships and help them to analyse, become more aware and learn how to regulate their emotions. The coaching sessions aim to be fun, creative and safe sessions where the child feels listened to and encouraged, through lots of games and activities. Coaching takes place at school but parents have the opportunity to talk to their child’s coach on a regular basis and are kept up-to-date with how sessions are going.
“I feel more confident… I’m more aware of my feelings and what to do with them.” (Coached child)
“Thank you for all your help with my child. Knowing she can talk to you is amazing. Helping her with her anxiety and emotions has made such a big difference and also helping me understand things better has improved everything. Thank you for giving up your time to help others. You’re amazing!” (Parent)
“Our experience of Early Intervention has been incredibly positive. I love what TLG does and wouldn’t want to go without it. It’s life-altering on their life chances. This programme really makes a difference.” (Headteacher)
